I don’t like Fox News Network. It’s true. Now, I am a liberal person who does not like to classify myself as such. On my facebook page under the “politics” option I left it blank. I don’t want people to label me, I don’t even want to label myself when I have that option. Every now and then something riles me up in the political scene and I feel the need to speak up. Today I feel like sharing an opinion.

Glenn Beck must be feeling a little sting right now. When his show aired last night there was something missing…about thirty sponsors. (Now don’t stop reading if you find yourself conservative. I don’t want to lose you, I’m not going to go on some anti-Republican rant. I think I have a bigger point to make.) Mr. Beck is in this conundrum because he went and said that President Barack Obama was a racist.

For those of you who have not been following what’s going on in the political arena latley, many conservatives have been straight out bashing Barack Obama. These are the same people that just a couple years ago were saying how important it is to stand behind your president and his decisions. But the political landscape has changed. Barack Obama has a lot of radical initiatives that he wants to push and naturally they are going to run into many obstacles, and naturally conservatives are going to see this as the time to strike, blast him as incompetent and knock his approval ratings down to try to set up for a resurgence in 2012. It just makes sense for them to do it.

What doesn’t make sense is to say things that are ridiculous. All news is biased, but Fox News Network takes it to the extreme. I don’t think anyone would disagree. Fox News has been saying some silly things to try and take down Barack Obama. Some statements have been hyperbolic some have been half-truths and some have been crazy. In the case of Glenn Beck vs. His sponsers, it has officially been categorized as crazy. Saying that the president is racist is crazy. As a result of saying something crazy Mr. Beck has had 33 sponsers drop their ads from his show to date.

We live in a society that allows opinions. Even in a post 9/11, Patriot Act USA people still look for the opinions of others. Whether it be your local news station, Fox News Network or a small little blog. Disagreeing with your president happened, is happening and will happen. But if you have a huge audience I think it might be in everyone’s best interest to think about what you say so as not to create a huge mess, no matter how much you might hate the person, don’t slander.

Carolyn Castel, a spokeswoman for CVS Caremark, says, “We support vigorous debate, especially around policy issues that affect millions of Americans, but we expect it to be informed, inclusive and respectful.” I think that pretty much sums up my sentiments. I have many friends that I get into little arguments regarding our position on politics, but at the end of the day we’re still friends. We still can respect each other’s beliefs even if we don’t agree. There’s no need to be disrespectful. There’s no need to make Obama/Hitler references. Don’t be crazy.
