Brett Favre hates being old.
This is a fond memory of last summer. When I first started my blog last year my first entry was “Brett Favre will never retire.” This summer it seemed like Brett was playing the same games that he always plays. He wants to play football but isn’t sure. He’s going to tease us and make us talk about him. People are sick of it. Nobody wants to talk about Favre because it seems like it’s always the same story. Sports talk show hosts almost refuse to talk about the subject anymore. It’s almost like he’s this joke that people refuse to take seriously. Brett Favre is the boy who cried wolf. I’m coming back, I want to play, he cries. Yet no one is sure whether or not to listen. No one belives him anymore.
I feel bad for him though. He loves playing football. He loves playing football so much that it makes him do silly things. He looks crazy and attention craved but deep down I do feel like Favre doesn’t mean to be silly. He just wants to be happy. But he needs to be happy on the sidelines eventually. Pretty soon he will no longer be able to play and he’ll have to retire. However as bad as I feel for him. I also feel bad for Minnesota, Green Bay and Josh David Booty. I also feel for Sage Rosenfels, Taveras Jackson and Favre’s Family. Minnesota looks like the loser that is dating the girl that said she wasn’t interested in going to the dance with you…maybe…I’ll think about it…okay I’ll go. Green Bay feels spited. Booty lost not only his jersey number but most likely his roster spot.
Favre hates being old and sitting down and relaxing. He has nothing to prove. He still has his health. He should enjoy his new retired life…but he can’t. Brett Favre will not stop playing football until he is physically unable and it will be hard for us to watch him go down stubbornly. Hopefully it won’t take too much of an injury to take him out. Hopefully he’ll stop playing before he becomes Steve Young or Troy Aikman or something worse.
I’m not saying he won’t have a good year, or will have an injury. I’m just saying I hope he wises up and stop his song and dance routine before something bad happens.
